artist insights
This painting began as a sketch in 2018. The idea made its way back in 2023 as I began to create a miniature diorama that reminded me of the drawing.
At the time, I revisited the initial idea of a meeting point between two elements – the idea of a cathode ray, and a lotus mirror (I imagined both as abstract forms), as if they were meeting for the first time in nature without human context.
I also combined this with the interest I had at the time in illusions and imagining distortions of temperature and electricity in nature.
