Every Corner

To celebrate the opening of Oak House, the newest residence within S&E Student Residences at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus, Spaces & Experiences launched the Local Art Program, an initiative that brings original artwork into the student living environment.

Through an open call, local artists were invited to submit works inspired by oak trees, sustainability, community, student life, and learning.

A selection panel comprising student residents, visual studies faculty members from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, and S&E staff selected 11 artists, including current students and alumni.

Featuring photography, painting, mixed media, and sculpture, the collection showcases a diverse range of artistic styles and perspectives. Each piece was thoughtfully selected and placed to complement its surroundings, from calming works that encourage focus and reflection in study areas to bold, vibrant pieces that bring energy to shared lounges.

Now permanently displayed throughout the residence, the collection is an integral part of the Oak House experience.

By bringing original art into everyday student spaces, the program creates opportunities for inspiration, sparks curiosity, and encourages new ways of seeing the world. It also helps transform a residence into more than a place to live, fostering a stronger sense of identity, connection, and belonging through art.
