Key Fobs 

Key fobs must be shown each time you pass the Front Desk. Your fob required to enter the building through turnstiles and to open your room door.

Maintenance

Maintenance 

We have a dedicated team of in-house maintenance staff that are here to help support the needs of students in their physical spaces. Maintenance requests can be submitted at any time on the Oak House Maintenance Portal and will be addressed in order of priority.

How to submit a maintenance request:

• Log into your StarRez account.
• Select Maintenance: My Unit under the dropdown menu.
• Provide as many details as possible about your maintenance issue. To ensure a faster resolution, please consent to allow our maintenance team to enter your space when you’re not present.
• Click submit. You will receive a confirmation email.

For an immediate maintenance emergency, please contact the Front Desk.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping  

• Housekeeping staff attend to common areas only. They will not have access to student rooms.
• Students are responsible for their own housekeeping within their dorm, suite and bathroom. This includes making your own bed, picking up after yourself and generally keeping your room in clean condition.
• Garbage removal is your responsibility! Housekeeping will not take your garbage out for you. You must place any garbage or recyclable items in the receptacles on your floor.
• If you spill something, it is your responsibility to clean it up.
• Paper products (e.g. toilet paper, paper towel) are not provided in student rooms
• Vacuums can be signed out at the Front Desk

WiFi

Wi-Fi is available throughout the Oak House building on the University of Toronto network.  You can connect to the U of T wireless network using your UTORID.

Guest Registration

Guest Registration

Guests are permitted at Oak House.

All guests must be pre-registered in the Housing Portal prior to arrival.

Guests should be prepared to display their confirmation email to security or a residence staff member when requested.

Residents must always be with their guests, including escorting the guest out of the building.

Guests are allowed to stay overnight for up to 3 nights consecutively and 10 nights total per semester as outlined in the Community Standards.

To register a guest on StarRez, please complete the following steps: 

• Login to the StarRez portal
• Go to the My Guests tab (found by clicking the hamburger menu icon)
• Select Register a New Guest and complete all information.
• A confirmation e-mail is sent to:
  • You, the resident
  • Your guest
  • Your roommate (if you have one).
• To enter the building, all guests must show photo ID and be signed in. Guest passes must be shown each time your guest passes the Front Desk. You are responsible for your guests at all times.

Please note: guest policies are subject to change at anytime.

Mail and Packages

• Mail and packages can be collected at Front Desk.
• Students will receive email notification for collection.

Bike Storage

• Bike storage is available for residents at Oak House, located in the lower level.
• To access the storage room, visit the Front Desk to register your bike

Don-on-Call

• On duty every night from 5pm – 8am .
• On duty 24 hours on the weekend .
• Completes rounds of student floors and ensures quiet hours are respected .
• Carries a cell phone and responds to student emergencies. You can find the Don-on-Call telephone number on the bulletin board on each floor.

Emergency Assistance 

Emergency Assistance

Onsite assistance is available via the Don on Duty, Front Desk or Security team.

911 should be called only in the following cases:

• A life threatening emergency – e.g. someone is choking
• There is a fire in the building
• A significant crime is in progress – e.g. assault
• An immediate threat to life
• In event of an evacuation, the designated muster point is located in the field behind the building.
